About Me
- Favorite Medium: paintings
- Statement: A dedicated watercolorist, Renee Eaton has forged a new role for watercolor in today's art world. Fascinated by how watercolor reacts with other materials, the artist pushes her work technically to the limits of experimental application. She first used thick and thin layers of gesso painted with watercolor, fresco style, to build up the material on paper and then, transferred the process to the backside of the translucent acetate and Plexiglas. Equally skilled in painting on canvas, the artist has combined these brilliant watercolor-painted acetate and Plexiglas surfaces with acrylic painted canvases to create an exciting mixed media design to express her varied subject matter. Whether the subject be creation mythology, the prehistoric cave art of Lascaux, the neon light of a night city or the life of a rose, Mrs Eaton's art reflects her varied interests and experiences. With reference to to images shown on the AOV website Renee Eaton has transposes the Stone Age cave paintings of France to a modern context using watercolor and ink on the reverse side of Plexiglas. Her paintings are inspired by early man's reverence for the vibrant world of animals around him. They reflect his sensitivity to color, line and shape and serve as a reminder of ancient man's creative capacity and artistic genius. As Teilhard de Chardin, the French paleontologist and philosopher, said, ""What we discover (in prehistoric art) is our own infancy; we find ourselves, because we perceive ""the same basic aspirations that spring from the bottom of our souls.""
