About Me
- Favorite Medium: paintings
- Statement: I began painting and drawing when I was 11 years old. Landscapes and still lifes interested me at that time. In high school I became fascinated with clay and started doing sculpture and pottery. The winning of an art award encouraged me to continue to make art. I spent four years at Hartford Art School in Connecticut, just outside of where I grew up, and tried my hand at photography, filmmaking, video and of course painting and drawing. I worked on large scale paintings while in art school because I had the space. Now that I live in San Francisco, the studio spaces are smaller and therefore I work on a smaller scale.Imagery has changed over the years. The content of my paintings were once bold and painterly with heavy impasto. I was influenced by the abstract expressionists and the German expressionsits and the Fauvists. More recently my work has become more ""controlled"", less impasto, less dramatic; but still whimsical.I have created art books and art on unusual surfaces such as mylar and foamcore. I use a variety of materials depending on the effect I want to create; for example, spray paint, glitter, velvet. Just recently I did a series of ""sculptures"" using Barbie and Ken dolls in compromising situations. I am not fixed in one medium, but paint is the predominant medium. Oil on canvas is a traditional use for an artitst, and i do prefer oil and canvas above all mediums
