About Me
- Favorite Medium: paintings
- Statement: My original desire to learn to paint was to express my response to the love of God and his beautiful world. Everywhere I looked there was a landscape that needed to be painted. As years passed, I turned more and more to the inner landscape of the sole. The symbols of the Christian Church became very meaningful to me-touched my spirit in a way that words could not.I started with a series of objective paintings using symbols, but universal as well as personal-the results of studies I had undertaken in connection with my ""inner journey"". The name of this group of paintings is called ""Inside Looking Out"" representing my inner person looking toward the light of truth. From this body of work grew the ""Dream Fragment"" paintings-birds and fish that are almost but not quite real as if I had known them in my dreams. They float in a random pattern across the page.Gradually my present series evolved-first by using the fish-a Christ symbol, then adding others-rainbows, butterflies, the circle and square. The squares represent the earth-God's Alter and the circles represent God and the Holy Trinity. My favor or painting at the moment is called ""Winter on the Alter"". Instead of cold colors it has reds, yellow and black reminding me of the warmth and friendliness of sitting around the fire on a cold winter day with my friends. At this time, I find that my work is finally consolidated into the direction I have been looking for all of my life. I am so excited about the paintings, I can hardly finish one before another is formed in my mind. I call them abstracts symbolism using figures from children's drawings primitive cultures and my personal symbols drawn from my Christian experience.
