About Me
- Favorite Medium: paintings
- Statement: Born in California, I moved to Nevada City in 1967 to attend John Woolman School-an alternative Quaker High School. My art education began with the spontaneous life drawing of the human figure I practiced there. After graduating I completed a semester of college-leaving to work for year or so in London, England-and then returning to make my home in Nevada City. When I paint I most often use paper as a support for water media and pastel. I work with the pigments, the surface tension of the paper, the way the water media blend or repel each other, and the shifting picture plane. What I trust and look for in a painting is the odd angle or intimation of something weird or quirky that celebrates a sense of place or feeling. I usually start and complete a painting in a few hours. Sometimes I go back into the painting to bring out certain aspects. It is only after the picture is 'done' that I give it an analytical eye to check for the carrying power of the composition.
