About Me

Favorite Medium: paintings
Statement: My artistic goal for the past year or so has been to paint more impressionistically. I have been studying the impressionists- largely the American Impressionism movement- for the past year. I am awed by the paintings of Childe Hassam, Theodore Robinson, and Mary Cassatt among others. I like the feeling of lightness that these American masters bring to their canvases. I appreciate the looseness of paint application and the subtleties of color blending that hallmark their masterpieces. I also enjoy seeing the landmarks and facades that make the American Impressionist works truly American. My challenge as an artist has been to interpret the American landscape- and especially the local landscape of the Eastern Seaboard- in a more impressionistic manner even as the American greats interpreted their own local landscapes. I think that the paintings in my current portfolio-Lagoon: Winter Shadows; Winter's Passing; Afternoon Corn; Ready Soy Field; and others- reflect some of the lessons learned through my study of American Impressionism.
