About Me
- Favorite Medium: sculpture
- Statement: ""Through my creation in clay I feel and express my deep admiration for nature's wonders: organic, rich forms and abundant colors""For a number of years Barbara Kobylinska has been working at the Logan Clay Products Co. mastering her techniques of transforming large pipes into flowers. The heavy clay pipes are cut, altered, and reshaped by pounding them from the inside and out with wooden tools often as big as baseball bats. To construct different forms two or more pipes are assembled together or stacked on top of each other. After an exciting process of creating the clay flowers, the sculptures stay in the pipe factory for several weeks to dry until they are ready to be fired in gigantic beehive kilns. When the flower sculptures are fired, they look like terracotta, are very strong and solid, and can withstand all weather conditions. Now it is time for final finishes and colors. The sculptures are painted with oil stains and then sealed to protect the vibrant colors from the damaging effects of sun and rain. Barbara Kobylinska has been building these contemporary large sculptures, as well as smaller organic vessels, and has been showing them to the public.
