Nancy J. Ballard

About Me

  • Favorite Medium: paintings
  • Statement: Nancy holds the status of MASTER ARTIST of Botanical Illustration with the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society and the Strybing Arboretum. As a result, she is privileged to study and make use of all plant materials found in the Gardens, providing unlimited possibilities to her repertoire of watercolor renditions. Nancy is the Founder of Black Tie Botanicals, an organization she created in an effort to raise consciousness about the fragility of our ecosystem through educational exhibits. With persistent observation, ordinary plants are transformed into focused illustrations of the plants’ life cycle, reminding us of their amazing, intricate and essential place in our universe. Artist and observer often connect with a spirituality frequently neglected or taken for granted in our busy world. Nancy shares this information in her work, perhaps overstating the obvious with her love of color and her flair for design.
