About Us

ARTWORK ON VIEW (AOV) was created by Jerome Field and his wife Jane Field in 2001 and went online in 2002. Jerome Field is an intellectual property lawyer specializing in legal problems of artists for over 25 years and has served for over 10 years on the Board of California Lawyers for the Arts. Jane Field is a career counselor practicing in San Francisco who has worked professionally with artists in their career development and as a Board member of another arts nonprofit.

ArtworkOnView.org focuses on improving the interaction between artists and the public.Over 650 artists were surveyed in designing the website to determine what features would best help artists and the public interact and the website faithfully reflects the survey's results.

AOV differs from commercial art galleries and e-commerce art dealers. These galleries and dealers exact royalties and commissions from artists on the sales of the artwork they exhibit and provide little or no opportunity for the public to meet and talk to the featured artist. AOV charges no royalties or commissions on the sales of exhibited artwork and actively encourages direct contact between artists and the public.
